Redistricting

The Office of Local Government (OLG) serves and assists all 95 Tennessee counties with delineating County Commissioner Districts - a process known as local Redistricting* -  and with delineating Voter Precincts.** We are also the Tennessee State liaison to the U. S. Census Bureau’s Redistricting Data Program.

OLG has been using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology since 2000. GIS allows us to house all Voter Precincts, Commission Districts and Census data in a relational database. Recently, OLG developed a method that allows Tennessee county Election Administrators to use our GIS over the World Wide Web to update and maintain their county Voter Precinct data. These data can then be used for a range of activities, from mapping to analysis, thus enabling Tennessee county government officials to more efficiently and accurately deliver the “equal population principal of one person – one vote” to the people of Tennessee.
