Tennessee public records laws apply to state, county and municipal entities and organizations. The Tennessee
open meeting law applies to “governing bodies”, as defined in Tenn. Code Ann. Section 8-44-102(b), which
consist of two or more members. In your inquiry, please identify the government entity or organization
whose records or meetings you are inquiring about.
An inquiry may cover both records and meetings. The Tennessee Open Meetings Act requires certain records to be produced, such as
notice and minutes.
Please include your contact information if you want a response from the Office of Open Records Counsel.
You will be assigned a reference number. Please maintain this number for your records.
