Bryan Burklin
Local Government Audit
Bryan Burklin, CPA, CGFM is the Director of Local Government Audit (LGA) for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, overseeing the annual financial and compliance audits of all 95 Tennessee counties. LGA also monitors the audits of more than 1,700 municipalities, non-profits, and other local government entities. The division’s responsibilities also include reviewing funds administered by District Attorneys General and Judicial District Drug Task Forces, assisting local governments in implementing new auditing and accounting standards, and advising the Tennessee General Assembly on legislation impacting local governments.
Bryan has been with the Comptroller’s Office since 1980. In 2015, he moved to Nashville to become the LGA’s Assistant Director after spending the first part of his state service in Knoxville. He was named Director in 2026. Bryan has spent his entire career assisting, advising, and auditing local governments in Tennessee.
Bryan is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager. He is a member of AGA (née Association of Government Accountants) and a 2016 graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute. In 2022, he received the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office highest honor – the Make Government Work Better Award.
A lifelong Tennessean, Bryan was born in Fayetteville and raised in Winchester.
Bryan is the father of four – one son and three daughters. He is also a proud grandfather of two beautiful granddaughters. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, reading, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols and the Atlanta Braves.
