Kandi Thomas, CPA, CGFM, CFE, CGMA is an Assistant Director of State Agency Audits within the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Division of State Audit. Kandi oversees and manages more than 80 staff members who perform Sunset Performance Audits of state entities, risk-based performance audits, the state’s Single Audit, and other work intended to aid the Tennessee General Assembly’s Joint Government Operations Committee.

Kandi began her career with the Comptroller’s Officer in 1984 as a legislative auditor in State Audit’s financial and compliance group. She was promoted to Audit Manager in 1991 and was named an Assistant Director in 2006.

Kandi majored in accounting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Kandi is a member of AGA (née Association of Government Accountants), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Kandi is married to Alan Thomas, who is the Vice President for Business and Finance at Middle Tennessee State University, and they have one daughter and son-in-law.  In her spare time, Kandi enjoys sports, drawing, painting, bird watching, gardening, and reading. She and her family also love spending time at Blue Mountain Beach on Florida’s panhandle.
