Local Government Audit

Katie Armstrong, CPA, CGFM, CFE, is the Assistant Director of Administration for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Division of Local Government Audit. Katie manages the administrative operations for the division including budgeting, human resources, audit fees, strategic planning, and facilities management.

Katie also oversees the operations of Tennessee’s two certified financial officer programs as well as facilitates education opportunities for these certifications.

Katie began her career with the Comptroller’s Office in 2003 as a field auditor of county governments in Middle Tennessee. After 18 years in the field, she began serving as a manager in the Nashville Office. She was named Assistant Director of Administration in 2022.

Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Austin Peay State University and is a graduate of LEAD Tennessee and the Tennessee Government Management Institute. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Katie is an active member of AGA (née Association of Government Accountants) where she has served as the Nashville Chapter’s Finance Chair, Treasurer, and President. She currently serves nationally on AGA’s Audit Committee.

In addition to her responsibilities with the Division of Local Government Audit, Katie has also served as the Comptroller’s representative on the Council on Children’s Mental Health and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency Board of Directors.

Katie and her husband, Shaun, live in Nashville with their two children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs, and attending Dave Matthews Band concerts. She has a goal to visit all 50 states with her children while taking in at least one Major League Baseball game at every stadium.
