Maya Angelova, CPA, CFE is the Assistant Director of the Medicaid/TennCare team for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Division of State Audit. Maya oversees the team to ensure it is properly conducting examinations, calculating reimbursement rates, determining reimbursable costs, calculating cost settlements, and providing other accounting assistance requested under its agreement with TennCare.

Maya began her career in Tennessee state government in 2011 as an auditor in the Medicaid/TennCare section. In 2018, she was promoted to Manager and was named Assistant Director in 2024.

Maya holds a degree in Production Engineering from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy in Sofia, Bulgaria and a master’s degree in accounting from Belmont University. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Maya is a member of AGA (née Association of Government Accountants) and the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She has completed several state government leadership courses including LEAD Tennessee (2019), the Tennessee Government Management Institute (2023), and the Tennessee Comptroller’s COT YoU Leadership Program (2023).

In her spare time, Maya and her husband love traveling and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys cleaning, organizing, cooking, and creating unique crafts.
