Comptroller Announces Leadership Change in Division of Investigations
Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Jason E. Mumpower has announced an upcoming leadership transition within the Office's Division of Investigations, which is responsible for examining allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse involving public funds and government operations.
Jeff Puckett, Director of Investigations, will retire effective September 1, 2026. During more than four decades of public service, including 34 years with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and a decade with the Comptroller's Office, Jeff has played a significant role in strengthening government accountability in Tennessee. As the first Director of the Division of Investigations, he helped build the division into a respected statewide operation, expanded its authority through legislative initiatives, strengthened partnerships with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors, and led efforts that uncovered millions of dollars in fraud, waste, and abuse.
"I am deeply grateful to Jeff for his extraordinary service to Tennessee and to our Office," said Comptroller Mumpower. "His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to accountability have strengthened our ability to protect public resources and serve Tennessee taxpayers."
Following Jeff's retirement, Christy Tennant will become the new Director of Investigations on September 2, 2026. Tennant currently serves as the division's Deputy Director and brings more than 25 years of experience with the Comptroller's Office to this role. Throughout her career, she has served in the Divisions of Local Government Audit, State Audit, and Investigations, accepting increasing levels of responsibility while demonstrating a strong commitment to accountability, integrity, and public service.
"Christy has earned the respect of her colleagues and partners across state government and law enforcement," said Mumpower. "Her extensive experience and dedication to our mission make her exceptionally well prepared to lead the Division of Investigations into the future."
