Meet the Interns

We will be featuring the 2024 interns in our ongoing Intern Spotlight Series to share more about their backgrounds and interests in the work we do.

Jacob Kieser,  General Counsel

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I have never lost a game of foosball in my life. While small, I think this showcases my tendency to hone my skills in everything I do. I focus on learning the best strategies for everything I do in order to perform to the best of my abilities. My foosball success has helped me with finding the most effective means, without sacrificing efficiency.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?
I really love being involved in ministry for high school students and spending my time hanging out with my close friends. Also, I am the second biggest Nashville Predators fan in the world, behind my older brother.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by sharing with others that their life value is not found in the things that they do or their accomplishments. Rather, everyone is valuable no matter how they compare to other people. It is very motivating for me to serve others through genuine and proficient endeavors in work and school.

What are you most excited about learning/experiencing during your internship with our Office?
I am most excited about experiencing what service to the people of Tennessee looks like in the legal field. Specifically, how my legal skills will help reach the goals of the Comptroller’s office. As someone who wants to work for the State of Tennessee, I’m excited to experience tangible ways my legal work will have a genuine effect on my state.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I coach wrestling at Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?
I love to fish, watch football, and cook good food.

What motivates you?
The desire to get better at something daily.

What are you most excited about learning/experiencing during your internship with our Office?
I'm excited to get real-world experience and form business relationships with new people.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I am a very supportive person, and I love to encourage others to stay motivated to help them

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?
I enjoy hiking, playing golf, and traveling the world! Also, I love spending time with my family and my two cats.

What motivates you?

I always enjoy a new challenge. This motivates me to learn and develop new skills to help me become successful in the future.

What are you most excited about learning/ experiencing during your internship with our Office?
I am excited to learn about the different fields of accounting, specifically auditing. I am excited to apply what I have learned to a state and local level.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I have had the pleasure of traveling to 13 different countries, and have been able to experience different cultures. I also interacted with people from all walks of life, from a former Parliament member to a small family from Frankfurt, each have their own life experiences with differing views, which I think is a valuable thing to any person. 

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?
I enjoy a wide variety of activities; the ones I enjoy the most are playing video games, watching movies, drawing, writing, and playing any sport. My favorite sport to play, though, is basketball. 

What motivates you?
My biggest motivator is all of my family and friends, who want to see me succeed at anything and everything I do. 

What are you most excited about learning/ experiencing during your internship with our Office?
I am most excited to learn about the audit process that Local Government Audit conducts and how their approach might differ due to the uniqueness of the different counties in Tennessee. I am also looking forward to interacting with other Local Government Auditors and learning about what it is like to work in the Comptroller’s office.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?

I had the opportunity to study abroad this past fall. I spent 3 months across 16 different countries in Europe!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?

I love spending time with my friends, especially when it involves being on the river tubing or playing pickleball! If I’m not with my friends, I can normally be found with a book!

What motivates you?

My motivation comes from my faith and my family. I want to glorify God in my career and make my family proud of me.

What are you most excited about learning/ experiencing during your internship with our Office?

I’m looking forward to applying my experience from other internships and my classes to make government work better!

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?

I would like for people to know that my faith is very important to me and the basis of how I live my life.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?

I have always been very passionate about sports. I played basketball in high school and have been a student worker for the Auburn football team. I also enjoy just spending time with my family and friends.

What motivates you?

My biggest source of motivation is to fulfill my potential. I believe God has blessed me with various gifts and I want to to steward those to the best of my ability.

What are you most excited about learning/ experiencing during your internship with our Office?

I want to soak up as much knowledge as I can this Summer in order to prepare me for my professional future. Working in investigations is an awesome opportunity for me personally because I have always had an interest in crime detection and have always had an investigative mind. So, this opportunity combines that passion with the skills I have developed in my educational journey so I am very excited for this Summer.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?

One thing that is not listed on my resume but would love to include about myself is that I have worked over 7 different jobs starting at the age of 16 in different fields. I believe in gaining as much experience as possible from a young age. Therefore, I never say no to a certain job, no matter how big or how little. If the opportunity is there, then I chase after it.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?

I love to read books. Specifically I like to read law, personal development, and finance books. Usually, I enjoy reading outside near the river or at a park. It is very relaxing and therapeutic. Additionally, I plan on writing my own book in the near future as I travel the world.

What motivates you?

I believe that my motivation comes from being around very successful people who push me to better myself every day. I am highly motivated to see people who have struggled in the past gain financial success. It shows me that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

What are you most excited about learning/experiencing during your internship with our Office?

I am most excited about gaining mentorship and meeting individuals with different backgrounds. I look forward to this opportunity because I would like to build strong connections with successful people and individuals who have similar goals as mine.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I love going on new adventures and trying new things! I am always up for a challenge and pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?
I love to travel, hike, and spend time with my friends and family! This summer I get to travel to Alaska with my family!

What motivates you?
I am motivated by how hard my friends and family have worked toward their passions and dreams. Watching them grow and succeed at their own passions makes me want to push myself to reach my own dreams and aspirations.

What are you most excited about learning/experiencing during your internship with our Office?
I am most excited to meet a new network of people and learn so much about the office of the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury! I am also excited about the opportunity to tour the State Capital and the Tennessee State Museum.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?

As a very creative person, I try to be innovative with my work. I am constantly bringing new ideas to the table and using my imagination to solve problems!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, passion, etc.?

I love music! I sing and play 7 different instruments. I am part of an all women’s a cappella group at my college, where I am a music director and beatbox! I choreograph dances every semester for my college’s Asian cultural organization.

What motivates you?

Working with others in my community and meeting new people has always fueled excitement in me. Most of all, I am motivated by my mom and dad, who sacrificed a lot to provide me with an amazing education.

What are you most excited about learning/ experiencing during your internship with our Office?

I am most excited to meet professional and incredible individuals who will teach important skills for my future career. I hope to learn new things about how the government works and create real change in the world, no matter how small!

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I am a punctual person; I hardly ever show up late to events!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy reading, hiking, being outdoors, and crocheting! My all-time favorite book to reread is The Great Gatsby.  

What motivates you?
I am always trying to better myself and my understanding of the world around me, including learning something new each day or trying out a different skill.

 

Kristina Lee Mosley, Investigations Intern

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
As the Fall semester approaches, I will be studying abroad in Ireland at Maynooth University pursuing my degree in economics while learning more about international business and Irish culture.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love playing my guitar and singing when I have the chance. I would regularly attend open mic nights to watch and enjoy the music as well as perform. I also love attending live music events no matter the size of the venue. Nashville has given me the opportunity to surround myself with what I love while expanding my professional goals.

What motivates you?
My family is my biggest motivator. They’ve always pushed me and encouraged me to do my best in everything I take on and are never late to patting me on my back for the things I’ve accomplished.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I would like to include that I have a passion for mentoring others and look for ways to encourage and guide young women that want to study Accounting.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I love playing with my goldendoodle Miles, spending time with friends, and traveling to experience new adventures. I also love going to Zumba classes!

What motivates you?
My motivation comes from my drive to be successful in my professional, academic, and personal life. I love putting time and effort into a project and feeling a sense of accomplishment when the project is finished.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I was born in Kaliningrad, Russia and adopted when I was 6 months old and I have grown up in Kingsport, Tennessee all of my life.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I really enjoy exploring new places, hanging out with friends, and getting outdoors to run and/or hike. I have also played piano for a majority of my life as well.

What motivates you?
I always love learning new things. Whether that be through hands on experience or in school, I am always trying to find something new to learn and keep me motivated and on my toes.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I enjoy assisting my dad with coaching high school soccer and love helping people learn and play the game.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am an avid fly and bass fisherman. I love to fly fish in the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee and kayak the Harpeth river for Smallmouth Bass.

What motivates you?
I am motivated to use GIS to solve real world problems and hopefully my maps or data analysis can help people solve a problem or answer a question that they did not know before.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
Before I decided to major in accounting, I was an assistant boys basketball coach at a local middle school.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy going to church, spending time with my friends and family, and watching and playing sports. I am a huge Tennessee fan, and I have football season tickets.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by preparing for the future and trying to establish a strong foundation for myself and my future family. I want to create opportunities for my hometown and get in a position to give back to advance the next generation. I want to help continue to make the State of Tennessee the best in the world.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I am learning to play the harp. I’d like to use this talent to sooth the world.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I have a passion for jazz, cycling, and fine dining. 

What motivates you?
I am motivated by knowing I have found my passion and purpose in public service.

What is one thing that is not on your resume, but would love to share about yourself?
I have been told that I am a great teacher because I make others feel comfortable when learning something new.  I take pride in that, and I love to help people become better.  

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love working on cars. Specifically old muscle cars, it’s like my own type of therapy. I am also a big Survivor fan! I have applied twice to be on the show, but I haven’t had my chance yet.

What motivates you?
The opportunity to be creative motivates me. I like to come up with fresh new ideas on approaching things. I
am motivated when I can overcome a challenge by using different problem-solving techniques.
